Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I want to give all of my students the right to build themselves up, to believe in themselves, to learn to communicate and to learn to be good leaders. WHS is in a low-income school district and every day I find myself giving food to students who didn't get breakfast or won't have dinner. I find myself supporting students with depression. Our students have roller coaster lives but yet they show up to school and show desire to learn and experience new things. There is proof that being outside makes our students learn more and feel better. My students deserve that. My students deserve the chance to learn daily skills and create memories. They deserve the chance to create a new future and be given the opportunity to create careers and hobbies. My students are hard workers and they have all shown they desire success, positivity, and strength both mentally and physically. As a first-year teacher, I can't imagine being anywhere else. They have truly inspired me to work my hardest because that's what they deserve. When my students ask for new opportunities to grow and learn, I want to give them that.
My Project
WHS is soon to offer an Outdoor Recreation Fitness course which will be the first of its kind. Our Valley is so fortunate to have a vast array of outdoor activities we can enjoy right out the back door. Backpacking, skiing, snowshoeing, biking, rock climbing, hiking and the list goes on…Many of the students at WHS have not been exposed to or become familiar with many outdoor adventure activities. This fitness course will be the gateway for many of the students at WHS to experience physical fitness in a new way, out in nature.
To make these activities possible for this class, the school is looking for rock climbing gear purchase donations like harnesses and carabiners.
Most students will never scale a 50-foot wall but ours will thanks to your help and support.
