Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My preschool students with special needs enjoy outdoor activities. They love pretending and imagining events, unfortunately our outdoor area is not equipped with the necessary equipment and supplies to allow our students to develop gross motor, social and communication skills.
My students are preschool children with special needs ranging from mild to moderate developmental disabilities, speech and language delay, autism, and cognitive delay.
They are three to five-years-old. Most of them come from low income households. They attend a Title I school. They love to play outdoors, pretend to buy and sell, pretend to bake cakes and imagine having birthday parties with their friends. Young children are very active and greatly benefit from outdoor play.
My Project
If my students obtain the outdoor materials they need; they will be able to choose from a variety of activities. They could pretend to cook and serve food with the kitchen, table and umbrella sets, they can play with the scooters, they could pretend to be truck drivers. Having access to outdoor supplies will allow my preschool students to develop social, gross motor and fine motor skills which are essential for their development. They will be developing important school readiness skills while they have fun.
Having outdoor play supplies and materials will allow my preschool students to enhance their social, cognitive, and motor skills.
The Super Chef kitchen will allow them to use their imagination and pretend cooking, while they use the picnic table they will pretend to serve meals. These materials will be a great asset to my classroom and my students will greatly appreciate them.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
