Help me give my students giant bubble solution, giant bubble wands, hula hoops, balancing stilts, and mud kitchen accessories to get them learning and playing outside of the classroom.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school is located in a highly urban area and many of our students do not have sufficient opportunities to engage in activities surrounded by nature on a regular basis. Fortunately, our school play yard provides this space for them to explore, learn, and enjoy nature right here in the city. I would love to give these pre-kindergarten students the opportunity to spend more time outdoors, learning, exploring, and creating.
Your donation to this project will provide students with outdoor fine and gross motor experiences, STEM interactions in nature and dramatic play with natural resources.
The giant bubbles and bubble wands will immerse the pre-K students into an outdoor world of STEM. Not only will they have the opportunity to create their own giant bubbles, but they will also have the opportunity to become scientists and mathematicians. They will have to opportunity to follow the bubbles to new corners of our outdoor learning area and discover new aspects of nature right here in our very own school. They will have the opportunity to ask questions such as: Do bubbles always make a spherical shape? By twisting the wands into different shapes, such as stars, squares, or triangles, they will have the opportunity to investigate what shape the bubbles are when they are made from these differently shaped wands.
Students will have the opportunity to create their own nature hunts by encircling plants, animals and sand and rock formations with their hula hoops. They will use the pots, pans, and dishes to cook in our mud kitchen and picnic in our play yard, and they will use the bucket stilts to explore the great outdoors from new heights and angles while also building gross motor skills.
