Help me give my students outdoor, COVID safe learning opportunities to provide a cool shady place for comfort while learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students include children who are English language learners, students with disabilities, and general education students. We are a Title I school in the South Bronx in New York City. My students are Bronx-strong, having endured a disproportionate loss of life and economy from the pandemic.
My Project
Our art program has extended itself into the outdoor space this year as part of an effort to expand safety during the pandemic.
This canopy would support students working on their outdoor murals and art projects as the weather warms and shade is unavailable on our asphalt play space.
The canopy would not only aid us in the present outdoor experience but support future generations of outdoor art explorations.
I would love to provide a more comfortable experience as we work so that students could focus on their art and not worry about the heat.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
