This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

After four years of teaching in the dual language program in a public school, I still am blown away by the students and families in my program. Never in my previous experiences had I worked in a school where ALL students were given the opportunity to learn to be bi-literate in Spanish and English, which means that I have African American, Latino and White students all working together during a lesson in beautiful Spanish. What a gift for our students! Their parents have made the decision to give them the gift of bi-literacy and the opportunity to actively engage in an increasingly globalized world.

My 4K students begin the year excited to learn, to make new friends, and to explore their world!

My Project

Returning to face-to-face learning conditions in a four-year-old kindergarten requires a bit of creativity infused with a lot of fun. The chairs will be used to provide students with individual seating spaces outside, which will also help them maintain appropriate social distancing. The chairs easily stack so they are easy to pack up at the end of day and they are the perfect size for little bodies. The locker will be used to store daily outdoor-learning materials so that they are readily accessible and do not need to be brought in and out each day.

The goal is to create an engaging learning environment outdoors that can be easily put together each day.
