Outdoor Classroom and Community Garden

Help me give my students a garden featuring indigenous plants, fruits and vegetables, while using the stock tanks as planters and a storage shed to keep our tools.

My Project

We are creating an outdoor classroom and community garden. Our school is located in an area, adjacent to the local pueblo and most of our students reside there. The tools on our donor choose list are essential for the planting, up keep, harvest and flourishing needs of a garden and outdoor classroom. These tools are used to plant, weed and establish berms/basins for the garden and habitat area Garden Rake Steel, Lawn Rake Polypropylene, and Square Point Shovel/ Round Point Shovel.

The 3 Garden Hose Coupled Assembly, Kink Resistant, 5/8 in Hose, the 2 Garden Hose Reel 175 ft, the 4 Soaker Fan Spray Nozzle Adj, 3/8 in, Aluminum/Polymer and the 3 Handheld Sprayer 1 gal Sprayer Tank will be used to water the non native garden vegetables, and flowers that will be grown in our 100 gallon Stock Tank.

Students in order to work with tools will need safety equipment used in outdoor activities of pruning, and harvesting with Knit Gloves, Hand Cultivator Polyethylene, Right-Handed Scissors and Hand Trowel Polyethylene.

All of the garden supplies, tools, seed, and soil will be kept in the Outdoor Storage Shed 11 ft x 11 ft x 7 ft, near the classroom for easy student and teacher access.

Along with our students, we are always looking for ways to give back to the community, and providing them with fresh farm-to-table vegetables is a great way to do so. We have a plan to continually grow the size of the garden and possibly join up with the food bank to provide for our families.

Along with providing the community, the students will learn real-life skills that they too can teach their families and community. The outdoor classroom will teach the students about nature and the planet they inhabit. Renewable energy and sustainable harvest
