My Students
We like to think of our TK-5th grade school as producing well-rounded, whole children who make healthy choices for their minds, bodies, and spirits. We teach them to care about achieving academically, pushing their bodies to gain physical strength, flexibility, and stamina, and finding joy in the performing and fine arts.
My 5th grade students strive to thrive with challenges that enable them to collaborate, communicate, and be creative and critical thinkers who can make a difference.
Our community is very stable with many families who have a long history in the area. Other families return after college with their own families to attend this well regarded elementary school. In fact, some of our teachers on staff were once students!
Because we are a high academic achieving school, we often do not qualify for the same grant and state funding that schools of lower socioeconomic status would. This does not mean, though, that we are any less worthy, nor do we necessarily have the funds to provide the students with the complete opportunities we would like.
My Project
After the school closures, I'm preparing for 5th grade students who have increased anxiety and trepidation. They're anxious to get back into the classroom, but fearful of what their learning environment will look like.
A new classroom library provides a safe space for students to engage while we transition back to learning with peers in a classroom environment.
Floating bookshelves will house a variety of quality literature while also leaving plenty of space on the floor to curl up and read on a supportive back pillow. New cubical shelving also allows students the ease of accessing classroom supplies such as: notebooks, glue, markers, Post-It notes, pencils, etc.
I'm excited to bring students back into a classroom learning environment, but I'm aware of the emotional toll our school closure had. Help me welcome these kiddos to their 2020/21 school year with a fresh look and a new classroom library.
