Out With The Old, In With The New! Set Completion!
My students need complete sets of various art supplies. All supplies are well loved and used by my students and as a result, often need to be replaced.
Save our classroom from being featured on Hoarders: Artists' Good Intentions Gone Bad.
With constant budget cuts to education, teachers learn early to save and scrimp. Art teachers are especially skilled at this. We never throw away anything, for we MIGHT be able to use it one day.
Our students are in a K-12 Alternative School setting.
As a result of a streamlined budget, art is one of the few electives that is offered. Most of the students truly enjoy being creative and are excited to try new techniques and styles. The room looks packed, but the looks are deceiving. The students become frustrated when they reach for an art supply only to find it depleted, molded, dried out or broken. By stocking the room with basic supplies, we will let go of the old, reorganize, and create stocked shelves that are inviting and accessible and functional!
My Project
Who knows what they will discover as we clean out the old and bring in the new? The process will also serve as a metaphor for students to explore and identify areas in their lives they are "holding onto" that are weighing them down, blocking potential growth. I am requesting prismacolors, watercolors, pastels, and sketching pencils, color wheels and pre-cut mats to replace missing or broken supplies and sets.. Having these basic supplies will allow students to begin new projects without fear of not having enough supplies to finish (or start.)
Art matters.
Self-exploration, problem-solving, creative thinking- all are enhanced by quality art experiences. Quality experiences begin with quality supplies. We promise we will use, not hoard, what is given.
