One of the best things a teacher can hear is a student coming back and telling you how well you prepared them for their future. One of my goals is to have a 100% fully blended and modern classroom... and slowly but surely, with the help of donors like YOU, we’re getting there.
Our school is located in the poorest congressional district in the nation - all students are eligible for free and reduced lunch.
The school is completely Latino and African American. Despite the odds stacked against them, 100% of our graduating seniors are college or career bound.
My Project
In my Economics class, students create business plans and inventions in order to practice marketing. They learn by doing. After building my classes- a computer lab over the years there is always a fight for the "good" computers. It determines which software they can use and run. It also determines the speed in which they can download and upload information. I don't want them to keep arguing over the "good" computers and resources. I want all of them to have access to what they need to be successful. By having this computer available, students will be able to use this computer with software to create professional level business plans and presentations. We've made great strides toward a paperless, modern classroom. My students deserve an education and a classroom that reflects what they will experience as they go on to their futures.
Statistics show that the more catch-up students have to do in college the more likely they are to drop out.
The more they don't understand the technology and tools of the real world the more likely they are to not be able to keep a job. Over the last few years, I have been attempting to build a classroom computer lab that they can go to and work on the skills they need for their next level. Adding this computer to the computer lab we've built in class, will allow students to develop the technology skills they need to succeed in the fast-paced, ever-changing professional world.
