Our class quote is " The more you read the more you know. The more you know the more places you will go!" -Dr.Suess. My project is greatly needed to help my students build reading and math skills so they can go on many adventures and travel the world without ever leaving our classroom.
I have the pleasure of teaching 19 amazing kindergartners.
They are spirited and have a deep love of learning. My students come from all walks of life and most are in non-traditional home life settings. Each one has a unique learning style, and for most of them I am their first experience with school. It is my goal to make this first experience for them memorable and amazing. We spend a large part of our day doing hands-on type instruction. Our world is moving very quickly with new technology and I want to give my students a head start with access to new materials.
My school is a Title I school, which means a large part of our schools population is receiving free or reduce lunch.
My Project
We currently have one computer in our classroom and it is over 10 years old. It can not run our SMARTboard properly. My students could play more interactive educational games, read digital text, explore phonics and get the full use out of our SMARTboard if we had proper equipment to run it.
I envision my students this year taking charge of their learning. With new technology my students will be able to become more proactive in their education. Students could share there work and lead lessons with a document camera. Many activities can be modeled clearly for every student to see with the use of a document camera in our class.
This project will improve my students lives by giving them current technology to work with.
A computer will allow us to use our SMARTboard to its full potential. Kindergarten students are hands-on learners. A document camera will help all children see and display any materials needed for lessons from math manipulatives to sharing stories and writing.
