This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Title I primary school for PK-1st grade only. Lots of littles and lots of fun! My students are creative, active, curious, and love to try any kind of art media they can get their hands on. A lot of my students don't have art resources at home, so my class may be the only place they get exposed to art and get to explore and create.
My Project
We have faced a lot of challenges this year with the pandemic, winter disaster, and more. My students, known as my littles (they are all 4-7 years old!) are amazing and have met these challenges, worked hard, and done some amazing artwork this year. I would love to celebrate my amazing littles with a glow in the dark art extravaganza! These art supplies and blacklights would give me the opportunity to give the students something special that they would never be able to do at home! I teach in a Title 1 school and a lot of my students don't have basic art supplies at home such as paper and crayons. Being able to give them somthing special is my goal every year. The art room is a place for my students to have some fun and learn in a different way. We integrate literacy, math, science, problem solving, social emotional learning, and a lot more with our art. These special supplies would help us create some fun glow in the dark artwork, hopefully create some special memories... and sneek in a little science for enrichment.
"Under the Sea or Out of this World Black Light Extravaganza" is the theme of the glow in the dark artwork I hope to do with my littles to celebrate them and give them a special experience.
The best way to get my students engaged is to give them new experiences... let them try things they may never get to do at home. I love to integrate other subjects into art because art is always more than just drawing or painting. For this project we will include some science by learning a bit about space and/or ocean life while we create our artwork!
