My Project
Students at my school are still trying to find out how to navigate a world that wasn't available to them during the pandemic. Understanding and adapting to interpersonal relationship skills is a life skill that is always in need of refinement. Building empathy for others and standing up for what is right, like all skills, takes practice and motivation.
My goal is that students will get the exposure and resources needed to practice these life skills through reading the powerful book, "Out of My Mind", which is a first-person narrative told through a student with cerebral palsy and examines the hardships that she and her fellow classmates with special needs face every day.
One School One Book is an incredible opportunity to build a positive school culture through the shared reading of a high-interest and powerful text. Meaningful activities that relate to the text and connect students understanding beyond the book are also powerful tools that OSOB uses.
