Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 6th grade in an urban, high-need elementary school. As an elementary teacher, I have the privilege of teaching many different curriculum areas. I would love to develop my science resources and having an aquarium would be a great step towards a productive learning environment.
Every classroom benefits from a living ecosystem. It teaches the children responsibility as well as life processes. An aquarium stocked with active, colorful fish is a great way to show students how to care for other living creatures. We will be learning about Habitats soon, and to have a real, living habitat would be an excellent teaching point. I plan on filling the tank with fish and frogs so the class can see how different species interact in one habitat. In addition, research has shown that having fish in the classroom can create a relaxed, focused learning environment.
In order to create a living ecosystem in our classroom, we need a 15-gallon tank, filter system, hood, cleaning equipment and gravel.
In addition to the exciting science projects in our classroom, an aquarium would create responsibility and stimulate learning based on observations and student-lead discussions. Your donation will make it possible to bring this ecosystem to our classroom!
