This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach art to students ranging in age from four to fifteen in an extremely poor neighborhood. This is the first time most of my students are experiencing art in an actual art room. Many of them have never had the opportunity to use paint or scissors and glue.
My students are incredibly enthusiastic about art and are always willing to try new things, but are very critical of their own work! I'm working on getting them to take pride in themselves and what they create, but seem to run into barriers. My students tell me they have so little to be proud of considering their surroundings. I want to change that!
We don't have the funding to go to art galleries, so I want to be a gallery to them! We need these frames to create an artist of the month gallery in our hallways. I want my students to feel that their artwork is so wonderful that it deserves to be displayed in a frame!
With your help my students can aspire to become great artists, whose work can be displayed in a gallery for all the school to see. My students can take pride in something they have created and feel some satisfaction that their hard work is noticed and rewarded!
