This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The majority of my students are low-income students whose families struggle to support their education. Many of them work long hours even after they have finished the school day. They aren't doing these things for just extra money, they are co-providers in their homes.
Many of my students can't even afford the most basic of school supplies.
They are in a constant struggle to fight for their existence. Every day they come to school because it is a place they are safe.
My Project
Our Students Say is a new project for my AP Language students. They will be doing research all year to put together either a TED Talk or Podcast that brings awareness about important social issues. The video and sound recording equipment will help my students create high-quality work that they are proud of. Students who are from low-income homes feel that their projects are inferior to students from medium-income homes because of their lack of resources to produce something that they are proud of. I hope that with the video and sound equipment they will be able to speak with pride and be proud of their project.
Education is the key to peace in our country.
It is the goal of the project to allow students to speak about issues that are important to them and suggest ways that we can help people show more empathy and mindfulness towards one another.
