My Project
I teach my students recorder January of their third-grade year. They continue with this instrument in fourth grade. This not only activates all parts of their minds to open up connections for other learning but works on fine motor skills, responsibility, and a strong work ethic. It also gives them a sense of pride knowing that this is "their' instrument and "their" responsibility.
The reality is, most of my students cannot afford to pay for this instrument.
I use an amazing program called Recorder Monsters where students set a goal for themselves, practice basic methods, and then assess themselves and others on their progress. Playing this instrument is not only teaching music for the sake of the arts but connects to so much more.
It pains me every year to see the few that cannot play a recorder because they cannot afford it. Your donation does so much more than buys an instrument...it allows me to instill a sense of pride and responsibility into my students along with the joy of music.
