My Students

I know everyone says this, but our students are truly spectacular. We are a large, public elementary school with kind staff and awesome kids, but many of these are kids who are have lived through very hard times.

Our school is beautifully diverse.

Our students speak 27 languages at home and come from all over the world. We are a community of achievers who overcome odds like poverty, homelessness, and trauma to become the best kids they can be. We're at an 80% free and reduced lunch rate.

My Project

Our school has a large percentage of students who lack basic needs. Our community of learners has a lot of heart and a lot of potential, but their families are often unable to provide them with things like soap, laundry detergent, and snacks. In order for our kids to excel, we like to be able to provide their parents with emergency hygiene products when the families have too many expenses to be able to afford these kinds of products. If my project is funded, I can give families the laundry detergent, dish soap, and other necessary items that they need so they can better support their kids and these children can come to school ready to learn (instead of distracted or feeling embarrassed by not having clean clothes and bodies). Research shows that attendance and performance increases when kids can come to school clean and not hungry, and our kids just feel better in general when their parents have the things they need to keep their families healthy.
