This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come to my classroom with different attitudes about learning. Some come anxious or eager, and others simply come with the desire to have a good time socializing. I feel that with this variety of learning dispositions or modes I must find a way to effectively educate all of them.
This year, 2014-2015, I have wonderful high school math students (grades 9th -12th).
Unfortunately, the math skills of many of my students (68%) are below grade level according to state tests. Student work confirms the state test data. Through reflection on student work and research on how to best help my students achieve math literacy and proficiency, I have come to the conclusion, that appropriate technological tools will help them better access the math literacy required to graduate from high school and to achieve success in college and in the work world.
My Project
Our project requires an appropriate projector that will allow students to collaboratively, confidently, and comfortably interact with our recently acquired and installed smart board. Once obtain, I envision my students more actively engaged in achieving the math literacy and proficiency so important for their college and career success. Based on research and knowledge of my students, I believe that the smart board in conjunction with the appropriate projector will afford my students greater access to the math concepts that otherwise are so difficult to comprehend without visual access and cooperative and collaborative practice.
Equipping our classroom with a proper projector for our existing smart board will definitely facilitate the access to the many math skills my students so desperately need.
Nowadays there are so many math learning resources online that offer our young people an easier way to acquire or develop math skills. I want to provide that opportunity to my students whom every day I see struggling in achieving math learning success. The projector will help me help my students.
