My Students
YEAH! We received a Smart Board for our classroom that will create endless learning opportunities. We can't wait to use all of the interactive components the way they are meant to be used. However, our old computer won't give us the opportunity to do so.
I am a Special Education Teacher at a school located in a low income neighborhood in New York.
We are an Early Childhood Center that ranges from Pre-K to Grade 2. The staff at our school pride ourselves on creating a love of learning in young children so they may carry it with them throughout their lives. The students in my class have been diagnosed with disabilities such as autism, speech and language disorders, and learning disabilities.
My Project
The students in my special education class all have very different learning styles. However, there is one way of learning that always appeals to them, and that is technology. A classroom Smart Board is one of the best ways to incorporate technology into a classroom. The educational opportunities and creativity that can come from a Smart Board are endless. A Smart Board works when it is connected to a computer. Everything on the computer screen is displayed on the large Smart Board screen through a projector. The Smart Board then basically becomes a large touch screen computer. There is a program called Smart Notebook that is used with the system. Teachers can make interactive slides based on anything the class is learning. Our old computer does not have the technology to support recent versions of Smart Notebook. This issue creates difficulties in creating proper slides and does not allow our students to get the most out of this amazing learning tool.
A Smart Board allows children to become facilitators in their own learning by physically moving and manipulating items on the slides to increase their own understanding of the topic.
We believe children gain the most knowledge and increase understanding when they are actively engaged in learning. Please support me in creating these opportunities for my special education students.
Thank you!
