My Students
I have 32 wonderful and bright students. They are all eager to learn many things in kindergarten. As a new teacher, I am motivated to bring new and exciting ideas into the classroom. I teach low-income students in a Chicago neighborhood. My school is great; unfortunately, it lacks the necessary funding that is greatly needed. The principal and the staff are great to work with. We all help each other in order to benefit student learning, which is most important to me as an educator. Without funding, the students are not given the accurate amount of supplies needed to complete the school year.
I teach ESL students reading, math, writing, social studies, and science.
My students love participating in centers for reading and math, but I would love to incorporate a writing center filled with the right materials.
My Project
What if all America's classroom teachers stopped spending their own money to buy supplies for their students? Imagine how many classrooms would lack the resources children need to write, read, learn how to use fundamental technology, or work on creative projects. On an average school year, I spend over $1,000 dishing out money for basic school supplies, books, art projects, holiday projects and so on. This year, my family and I have bought a house and our home budget is very tight. I love making my classroom a fun and wonderful place to be, for my students, however, this year has been a difficult one for me. I have taken upon myself to budget home much money of mine that I am allowed to spend on my students and the classroom.
CPS has taken it upon themselves to give many budget cuts to schools, especially the ones in low income neighborhoods, such as mine.
I know my students deserve the best as is any other student in any other neighborhood. This is why I am asking for basic classroom materials such as hand soap, glue sticks, velcro strips, hooks, and a phonics centers activity. Any donation can help my students and I look forward to a great school year!
