This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our 2nd graders have been working to build a pollinator garden. We began our adventure at the end of last school year. This year, our second graders have been working to grow our project by starting many of our native plants from seed.

We have been learning about how important pollinators are to the world, and the benefits of native plants.

We are also working with the theme that even small actions can make a big difference, and creating a persuasive writing piece to convince others in the community to start their own pollinator gardens. Our goal is to build a pollinator garden that the entire school is able to use and enjoy, as well as spread awareness about why it is important to provide pollinators safe places to live and grow, and create a garden that is able to be strong enough to be a monarch waystation.

With the raised beds, we will be able to grow a larger variety of plants, as well as expand our garden to more areas around the school. The milkweed seeds will allow us to work towards our goal of creating a monarch waystation. Milkweed plants are the only host plants for the endangered monarch butterfly.

Our 2nd graders, and entire school, would appreciate your contribution to our project.
