Our School Library Needs New Books

My students need new books to add to our school library so that 1,000+ students can read them.

My Students

I will be teaching a class of multicultural fourth graders that are a mixture of ELD, Special Needs, and Gifted students. They are eager students who are ready to learn and try their best.

Almost a third of our students come from low-income families that cannot provide them with the resources they need to help give their children the best education possible.

These students are the ones on the free/reduced-price lunch list.

With the diverse students in my class, I always find myself modifying everything I teach.

My Project

The most difficult thing is getting back what we once had. Prior to the budget cuts we've been facing these past 10 years, we used to have a library with a full-time librarian and funds to purchase new books on a regular basis. However, once that was taken away from our school, it has been very difficult to get it back. We currently have a librarian, however, we don't have the proper funds to purchase new, and popular, books that the children are yearning to read.

But how will the students be able to read these books if they cannot afford to purchase it themselves?

Through our classroom and school libraries. By having these books in our school library, it will give the 1,000+ students we have on our campus access to new books. The books I have currently chosen were the books most often requested by our 4th and 5th graders. I will soon poll the primary grades and see which books they'd like, and put another request on DonorsChoose.org.
