We are a first grade class that LOVES books. The students love choosing books from the classroom library. They read them alone, with buddies, and even take them home to read. They love when we get new books. The problem is we need more space to put them!
We are a new school that has lots of great new things but not a lot of storage for books.
The class loves to talk about books and do author studies. The problem is every time we think of a new group for our books we have to put them on the floor. The kids are great at being flexible with them on the floor but would really love a more organized system.
My Project
The student have a book bag they use to put the books in. Once a week they get to choose five books to put in their bags. (Yes, they choose not me.) They use the books to read alone, with a buddy, and take home to read. They love when they get to choose new books, but it is hard to search for books without proper bookshelves.
With this new bookshelf we will be able to see the different categories of books we choose.
We can also make room for new ones! The students will be so excited to easily be able to find a book they are looking for and put them back in the correct spot.
