Our Room Wants To Go Green!

My students need a scanner in order to create a more "Earth Friendly" classroom.

My Students

My students and I are working towards a more "Earth Friendly Classroom". This year I am sending classroom documents by e-mail, rather than on paper to try to reduce how much we use. We still have a lot of documents coming from the district that I do not have the ability to send digitally.

My students and their parents have been very receptive to "Our Room, Going Green".

One student recently mentioned to me that I needed to get a recycling bin for plastics as soon as possible, as we only had one for paper at that time. They are interested in finding ways to protect the Earth and waste as little as possible.

My Project

If our classroom had a scanner, I could scan all documents that need to be sent home, rather than having the office make copies for me. On an average day I have at least 2 documents for each child to take home. With a class of 20 students, by the end of one week, we're using over 400 pieces of paper. I'm excited that my students are so interested in "Going Green" and would love for them to continue learning about preserving resources, not to mention, seeing ways that it can be done. I'm also finding that this method of communication is convenient for parents and helping them to become more involved in our classroom and school activities, which is a vital part of each child's education.

Adding a scanner to our classroom will save resources and help to teach the students about "Going Green".
