My Students
My third graders range in ability levels and are eager to be challenged to further their education. Each scholar learns at his or her own pace; through personalized learning and by having adequate access to technology, my students are able to meet and exceed their goals.
I have 52 eager and energetic scholars who are developing a love of learning, and more specifically a love of reading!
Each day, these scholars show up to school craving an engaging learning environment wherein they have choice and ownership in their learning experience-by granting access to more technology in the classroom my students will have the opportunities to do just that!
Our school motto is S.O.A.R, which stands for Show Up, Own Up, Aim Up, and Rise Up. At our school, our scholars are showing up by coming to school prepared and eager to learn, owning up by taking responsibility for their actions, aiming up by setting high goals and always giving their best, and rising up by exceeding those goals and taking risks. With the foundation and power of a great education, our students will be successful- not just within the four walls of our school, but as citizens in our communities.
My Project
It is no secret that being well versed in technology is becoming increasingly more important. Technology might surround us, but in my classroom, we can't get enough-my students' engagement escalates every time they get access to a computer!
As part of their personalized learning experience, each student participates in a program called Lexia Core 5; through Lexia, my students receive explicit, online, reading instruction that targets skill gaps; however, in order to complete their prescribed minutes, my students need access to functional technology.
In addition to Lexia, giving my students access to chromebooks would allow for them to be able to complete research projects on topics they are passionate about, they would have access to websites like Epic! which reads stories aloud, they would be able to type out their stories before publishing, so that their stories look just like the stories we read in class-the possibilities are endless!
As each student develops and learns at their own pace, having more access to technology in the classroom will allow for more opportunities for the third graders to receive instruction that will help them grow and exceed their goals.
