I teach at a charter school where my classroom is full of fun, bright, energetic, and curious students. My students come from diverse backgrounds and have different learning styles. Engaging, hands-on learning activities is the secret to our success and so I am always switching things up and looking to add materials to my classroom to meet their needs.
My students are excited about learning, explaining their thinking, sharing what they know, and experiencing the world around them.
They work hard, help others, and play hard. No matter what we are learning about, my students fearlessly dive into the topic and give it their all. I take pride in creating an atmosphere of respect, love, and taking chances. I am thrilled to be able provide meaningful learning experiences and through them, instill a love of learning, teach them to care for and help others, and to be a person who positively contributes to our local and global communities.
My Project
These tablets will make a HUGE difference in my students' learning because we have a great opportunity through a grant, to use programs that help supplement our instruction in math and language arts but we don't have enough technology for all students. These programs focus on grammar, phonics, comprehension, and reading fluency. They help to pinpoint specific areas for improvement and what's been mastered for each individual student. These are important foundational skills that students will practice on their tablets so they can become successful readers. These tablets will also give us access to other programs we offer where they can practice their math facts, learn how to tell time, identify and count money, and the attributes of 2D and 3D shapes.
Bill Gates said, “Technology is just a tool, - in terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is most important.” I agree and believe there is definitely a place for technology in the classroom.
It provides another avenue for engagement and fun. We just need enough for each student so that all students can be engaged in these wonderful programs that will help them master the skills and concepts needed to succeed.
These tablets will also give my students access to other apps that will be fun for them to explore science standards. We learn about the stars (constellations) and there are neat apps we can use to see where the stars are during the day. Students can watch educational videos on weather, moon phases, and other science standards we cover.
Technology provides and element of the educational experience that brings our learning beyond the classroom. Thank you for your interest in our project and giving us meaningful learning experiences through the wonderment of technology!
