My students need the Polyhedron Bridge building system to began implementing the Next Generation Science and Engineering standards.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Speight's classroom raised $358

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My “Amazing” students enjoy working together. I want my students to continue to think like engineers and work together to solve problems. The Polydron Bridge building set will allow them to think freely, think critically, build, and most importantly actively engage in problem solving.
My students attend school in an urban school district located in South Central Los Angeles.
My 6th grade students come to school everyday waiting to learn new and exciting information. They are kind, hardworking, and persevere through the man of the situations they live through on a daily basis. Unfortunately, poverty in our area is a constant issue that we face. Currently, more than 80 percent of the students attending our school qualify for a free or reduced lunch. However, the students are eager to learn new things, intrigued by technology and enjoy collaborating on classroom projects and presentations.
My Project
My students will be engaging in unlocking the secrets of bridge building with Polydron Bridges which gives them the opportunity to act as Civil Engineers and Designers building and testing several types of bridge designs, including some of the most recognizable, world-famous bridge constructions including revising simple models and using models to represent events and design solutions through problem solving. They will also be encouraged and challenged to go beyond the set shapes and to experiment with their own creations. Students will focus on the following NGSS Science and Engineering Practices:
1 Asking Questions and Defining Problems
2 Developing and Using Models
3 Planning and Carrying Out Investigations
4 Analyzing and Interpreting Data
5 Using Mathematics and Computational Thinking
6 Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions
7 Engaging in Argument from Evidence
8 Obtaining, Evaluating, and Communicating Information
The donation of the Polydron Bridge building set will give my students the opportunity to implement the Next Generation Science Standards.
Direct involvement will help them develop an appreciation of the wide range of approaches that are used to investigate, model, and explain the world. Engaging in the practices of engineering likewise will help my students understand the work of engineers, as well as the links between engineering and science.
