Our Next Generation of Guitar Hereos!

My students need guitars and textbooks. Many of the school guitars are old and are not playable. The instruments and books I am requesting will greatly help my program.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The educational climate has changed greatly in these economic times. Budgets are being cut and DonorsChoose has allowed committed teachers to receive needed items for my students to use.

My students come from an inner-city urban environment.

Over 50% of them come from financially disadvantaged homes, and many of them from single parent households. Overall, most of my students perform well in my music classes, as is evidenced through their good grades, regular school performances, and festivals. I have a full time guitar program at school, and serve 100 students a day. Many of them will be music majors in college next Fall.

My Project

These guitars and books will help me teach my students. Currently, many of the school guitars are held together with carpentry glue, or do not hold their tuning well. I continue to serve my students well regardless, and I am committed to excellence with what resources I have. With a shoe-string budget, I organize field trips, arrange for enriching music events with local universities, perform regular concerts, and purchase many resources for my class with my own money. Your contribution will help serve my students with dignity and gratitude.

This project is important because students need music just like any other academic subject.

The world has changed greatly in the 21st Century, and we need to think differently; this comes from a diverse array of educational opportunities. Furthermore, interest in the guitar is growing, and reaching more students than ever before. I want to help lead the way and increase the amount of children playing instruments, and in particular, the guitar!
