My Students
Morning songs are so important in a kindergarten classroom. It is the time to gather together and begin learning. Music and movement is an important tool when working with children.
My school is a Title 1 school with about 89% of the children qualifying for the federal free lunch program.
We have some very needy families that cannot provide extras for their families. We have a few families that are homeless, living with family or friends, or in reduced rent housing.
My students are five and six year old children from central Florida. They love to sing, dance, and learn through music. I am proud of my students' gains this year and can tell that music helps them to learn.
My Project
I am requesting 1 Music Maker with remote control.
I use music and movement during the day in many curriculum areas to help the children learn. My students love to learn through singing. I have songs that I have used through the years that really help the children learn their letter sounds, counting, days of the week, and months of the year.
My students also listen to stories during reading centers. We have not had a listening center because we do not have a tape or CD player. Listening to stories is an important part of learning to read.
Our school does not have replacements for the CD/tape units that are broken. Unfortunately, our school does not have the budget to purchase more CD/tape players.
By acquiring this Music Maker cassette/CD music player, we will again have music in the classroom.
Using my laptop to play music does not allow me to have a listening center. This is very frustrating. Listening to stories is as important as having music available for singing and learning. My students miss having a CD/tape player.
