This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fifth grade students are eager to read but have limited access to books. They come to school every day with imagination and creativity. Most are on the free breakfast and walk to school. They are bilingual and speak another language at home. They are active and would like more books to share at home. We try to be multicultural in our activities at school. The holiday books chosen we add a new layer of knowledge and cultural awareness. We are a Title 1 school. All donors are greatly appreciated for sponsoring our needs. We hope we can reach our goal. Thank you very much.
My Project
These holiday books will be used as a Home/School Library for my fifth graders who are reading below grade level. They enjoy learning about diverse cultures and what better way than to study about how different people celebrate holidays. These eager students will read books at home and then take Accelerated Reader Tests on the books they read. They will also have the opportunity to read to siblings and friends as they share their love of reading with them. Presently, few books are in their apartments. Holiday books were chosen because we learn about diversity and enjoy sharing cultural differences and similarities.
