"Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable.... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals." ~Martin Luther King, Jr
My school is a challenging campus as we draw from a variety of socioeconomic and ethnically diverse groups.
On my campus, there are a large number of students who will be first-time college-bound students -- some of them first-time high school graduates in their families! What a tribute to their families! My students have the drive to learn, to achieve, and to succeed enough to get them into college. All they need to succeed is dedication along with a guide to help them learn how to study, how to be proud of their work and have confidence in themselves!
My Project
My students use the computer every day in my classroom to access their math homework, grades and websites for research. When the batteries die on the mouse they must be replaced in order for them to continue with class. My students are learning to navigate the world of web based assignments. At first they were hesitant, but now that they have seen the instant feedback that they received they are all in for the count! Because they are using laptops, they find it easier to navigate the website using a mouse. They have been amazing remembering to turn off the mouse and put the USB port back into the mouse to save the battery. But as you can imagine, when you have 100+ students using the mice every day, the batteries do run out and need to be replaced.
Computers make the world go round!
By having replacement batteries and rechargers, my students will be able to continue to learn how to navigate math websites without disruptions.
My students amaze me with their insight on how the math programs work; from graphing to drag and click problems as well as more challenging problems that involve computer assisted learning. The possibilities are endless for my students and their future!
