My Students

"I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library", said Jorge Luis Borges. We value reading in our classroom, and even though our school doesn't have a library, we read books everyday!

We are a public school with a very high percent of students receiving reduce or free lunch.

My students love to read, but most of my second grade students come from low income families, and some of them don't even have access to books at home. The time they spend reading in the classroom is the only time the are exposed to the magic of books.

My Project

We are creating a small library in our classroom, where my students can read everyday, and we are in need of a small sofa to create an inviting, quiet and comfortable place where students can read independently, read with a partner or listen to read aloud. My students are learning the importance of reading in their life, and having a comfortable place in the classroom to read everyday will help my students to increase their vocabulary and writing skills, and their concentration and focus among other benefits they will receive from reading. I want my students to explore, to have the most exciting adventures, to visit far away and magic places just by opening and reading a book. I want my students to see reading as the wonderful thing it is and not as a tedious chore. This humble piece of furniture will become the first chapter in my students story of a lifelong love for books.

Reading is an essential component of students education.

This project will give my students access to a comfortable place to read while developing and enhancing important reading skills they will need throughout their life.
