This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our little students face many challenges due to their disabilities and low socio-economic status. These students do not get interaction with technology at home and we are limited in the technology we can offer them in class. School is the only place they can experience the benefits of technology.
My students are AMAZING!
They are between the ages of 3 and 5 and all are identified as students with disabilities, ranging from language impairments to Autism and Down's Syndrome. These extraordinary little people come to school regularly and love to learn, especially using computers! These students attend a public school in a low socio-economic area. The students are in an exceptional education pre-kindergarten class. This is the students first educational experience and I am determined to make it a positive one! In our class, we strive to provide the students with multi-sensory activities that are educational and fun! The students are in desperate need of technology to enhance their learning experience.
My Project
Research has proven that students with disabilities can greatly increase their skills utilizing current technolgies. Communication, spatial concept understanding, pre-reading skills, writing skills, fine motor abilities and social skills can all be improved with the use of the Amazon Fire tablet.
Our students thrive on visual supports.
The Amazon Fire tablet provides visual and auditory supports as well as an interactive experience for our pre-kindergarteners. These experiences will support their learning styles and foster an understanding of concepts that will be paramount to their success in Kindergarten and beyond. The kid-friendly protective cases will ensure our tablets will be available to our students for years to come.
