My Students
2 yrs ago I was thrilled to have a LCD Projector donated to our class through Donors Choose. It has become a integral and daily part of instruction for my first graders. Whatever I teach, I try to infuse movie clips, pictures, web activities to build understanding. But our bulb broke, and we miss it!
I'm so happy to have the opportunity to do what I love.
Which is help my first grade students build a strong academic foundation. Its sometimes hard to do, working in an inner city public school. We have been hit very hard in this economy and there is no money for supplies. My whole teaching pattern changed for the better when I received our class projector from Donors Choose 2 years ago. It has become a part of our daily routine to look at a quick movie excerpt and to use web tools and sites to view and practice skills. I've been able to use it to enliven reading, math, science, social studies, and interdisciplinary lessons. Unfortunately we did not have a proper computer cart and our projector recently fell from the desk I had it on, breaking the light bulb. Since then, my students have asked to view things on the projector but I've had to remind them that the light bulb is broken.
My Project
With our projector I was able to use Discovery Education video clips to demonstrate science lessons, use Channel 13 video clips to build upon reading and math skills, and show Power Point sideshows I'd made about subjects we studied. I also made a sideshow to teach students how to work in center activities. I even made a slide show for parent teacher night to help explain what’s expected of a first grader and how parents can help. The possibilities are unlimited when you have the right tools to use and the desire to enrich student learning in your classroom. I really miss our projector and am at a loss to try to create the learning experiences I’ve been able to for the past two years as I begin a new school year with out a working projector.
Please consider helping to replace our projector bulb and giving us a sturdy cart and case to keep it safe.
My first graders learned so much when we had a working projector. It's an amazing tool that every classroom should have access to, to enrich learning no matter how much money the district has. We would greatly appreciate any amount you can give.
