Our Kindergarteners Are Centered on Independence!

My Project

The second half of the school year is a pivotal time for kindergarteners. They now understand the expectations and routines of school. They are also starting to lean less on teacher guidance and focus more on independence. As a kindergarten teacher, it has been amazing to see this growth.

During center time my main focus is to provide the students with activities that they can work on independently to reinforce skills that they are currently learning and have learned during the school year.

Having a variety of instant learning centers will allow students to independently choose and set up centers that both interest them and foster their independence. Small group instruction is extremely important in education and having the students choose and set up their centers allows more time for me to focus on teaching a small group lesson and less time on explaining each center to the students. I also would not have to continually stop the lesson to answer student questions.

I am new to kindergarten this year and my main difficulty has been figuring out the best way to navigate small group and center time. Coming up with fun and creative ideas that don't take a lot of time to explain and that the students can easily work on without much guidance has been challenging. The Lakeshore Instant Learning Centers will provide fun and engaging opportunities for the students to practice their skills independently in language arts, math, and science.
