This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have two incredible groups I work with. I teach math and science to a bilingual 3rd grade and a bilingual 4th grade. The 4th graders are my babies I worked with last year. They are a very curious, outgoing, and kind group. During class, they are very focused and good listeners. They love participating in math talks and working out and discussing word problems with their peers. My 3rd graders are a hard-working, creative, and more shy group. These kiddos enjoy working in math and science centers, sing along songs, and my math/science read alouds.

Both groups are a wonderful set of students that I feel lucky to teach, and that I learn from as well.

They have set goals that together with your help they will achieve and continue to strive for greatness.

My Project

My students love solving real-life problems in our math and science stations. Our Explore, Discover, and Create station is a set of task cards that give students a situation or a problem that they have to research more about to then be able to create a 3D model that will ultimately show the solution to the specific situation. Right now, our materials at this station consist of cups, straws, wire, and paper. With the Cricut machine, my students will now truly be able to make the models they have imagined in their heads come to life. They will be able to design a sketch and then from the sketch what specific shapes they will need to be cut to attach together in order to make the model three dimensional.

All my students love to be creative and, with the help of your donation, my students can make their creations come alive.

Students have created cars, planes, and even new species of animals in this station. But, when presenting to the class, their peers have a hard time seeing exactly what the presenter had imagined.

We also have display poster presentations throughout the year. We invite parents, other classrooms, and special guests to a gallery style presentation of posters on things students have researched. One of our big presentations is for our Birds in Our Neighborhood research project. Students research birds from the Chicago area and create a display on a specific one to present not only to their peers and parents, but also to a group of bird experts. With the Cricut, students will be able to create eye-popping displays to go with their extensive research. This will help them stand proud next to their work.
