This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We finally after 8 years of existence have our first Advance Placement classes. I am teaching both the Literature and Language AP classes. Since this is the first time we have ever had these classes, we need study material!
We draw our students from the poorest neighborhoods in our city.
Our students have a struggle just to get to our school. Many work as much as 30 hours or more per week to help with the family finances. Over 90% of their families qualify for free or reduced fee meals. Everyday, these kids overcome violent neighborhoods, illegal drug dealing, and domestic abuse. College is their ticket to a better life. These AP courses will help them realize their possibilities.
My Project
At the end of all AP courses, is a test given in May that can give those who do well on it advanced standing in college. Even if the students don't achieve advanced standing, they will be well prepared for their college studies as well as the careers they will follow. These books will prepare them for the tests and enlarge their intellects.
The tools I have requested will be used to assess their strengths and needs in the advanced literacy.
We will use them to prepare for the exams and to improve their critical thinking skills. This way, they will know what the tests are like, and how they can best master the material on the tests.
