Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every day my students come from one of the poorest communities in our city to get the one thing they need to escape their poverty, a high quality education. This year, our school has added two Advanced Placement English courses that will prepare them for college and careers.
Over 95% our student qualify for free or reduced lunches.
We are a "majority minority" school. About 75% of our students are African-American, about 15% are Hispanic, and the rest are white, Native American or Asian. We have all the challenges of American urban public schools: poverty, gangs, drug abuse, physical abuse, teen pregnancies, and so on. Still our students rise to the challenge despite all the obstacles in their path out of poverty. They deserve a high quality education just as does any child in our schools. This course is meant to give them just such and education.
My Project
My students will use these study aids to prepare for the Advanced Placement tests they will take in May. A good mark on these tests will ensure their admittance to college, and the course will help to succeed in college. The courses will help them do well on their college entrance exams and the state tests they will need to pass to get their high school diploma.
Your contribution will provide them the means to succeed.
These students have never had, till this year, and opportunity to take any AP courses. They need these aids to prepare them for the most challenging tests they have ever taken. Please give my students the opportunity to succeed.
