This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school populations has changed so much in the past few years. We serve free or reduced-price lunch to over 70% of our population. We have seen an increase of incoming families that have immigrated with very few resources. Our school community relies more than ever on schools to be able to provide resources and materials to all students despite all the budget cuts we have faced.

My Project

My incoming students have never set foot on our campus. We were learning 100% virtually last year, and they missed out on experiencing Kinder. They missed out on so much crucial learning and development that takes place in Kinder. We all know that all children had to learn to cope with their emotions in a different way.

My focus for this year, especially at the beginning of the school year is allow my students to express their different emotions through art and drama.

I want them to feel safe about expressing their feelings and emotions, I want them to know that it is healthy to express and talk about how we are feeling everyday.

With these art supplies we will be able to create self portraits with the canvas boards, brushes and tempera paint to explore our Social Emotional curriculum and create painting of different emotions we experience in different situations. We will use ink pads to create finger paint projects, tissue paper to create paper mache feeling faces. We will display Our Feelings Art work out on our hallway and use our label machine to identity our feelings and students can to a feeling check-in and express or point to the art that best describes their emotions on that day. We are back 100% in person and each week we will learn and read about new emotions and the students will be able to create art on the canvas to demonstrate this feeling. Our thermometer will be used to monitor those students who demonstrate signs of illness.
