Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an educator, I believe it's never too early to help students become responsible stewards of the Earth. This project will empower my students to take what they learn about the environment and turn it into creative, student-led campaigns that inspire action and awareness in our school. Although they are little, they are sure mighty and I want to encourage them to be better and do better for our environment.

Our class will launch a “Protect Our Planet” project, where students work together to create digital stories and short videos about how we can care for the Earth.

Topics will include specifically recycling since we had another project funded previously. Students will use what they learn in science and reading to share helpful tips and messages in their own words because we love to show them that everything learned can be connected to real life.

The iPad will serve as a creation station—allowing students to create digitally, narrate their own eco-stories, record environmental “public service” videos, and take photos of real-life ways our school can be more eco-friendly. Now we are starting off very small because they are tiny but we hope to grow them and helped them to ensure they protect our environment.

We want to reach our school family and maybe even the community. By using their voices and creativity, my first graders will help others make thoughtful choices and take small steps to protect our planet.
