My Students
My school is a melting pot of cultures. We have students from Korea, China, Africa, Mexico, Japan, the Philippines, and the Middle East; just to name a few. This causes many challenges for me as their teacher. Students everywhere need lots of hands-on activities to get them engaged, excited, and help them learn, even if they don't know the language. My class is no exception. My students are 7 and 8 years old and enjoy learning by doing.
Each year, it is more challenging to get students eager to learn to read, and enjoy science and math.
Many students come to school with a poor or negative experience in these subjects. It's time to change that and get them involved in meaningful activities that help them change and leave my class with a "positive attitude".
Students want to learn and by giving them the tools to use in the classroom they will be more confident and achieve greater things. These tools will help bridge the gap between learning and language. Thus, inspiring them to work hard and learn by doing. They are our future and we need to invest in them now, while they are accepting and eager to explore.
My Project
Our class has some amazing reading programs, but without headphones, it can be extremely distracting to listen to a book or view a video when our seat partner has selected something different to learn about. All of the noise can be very distracting.
Focus and concentration are needed to learn new information and a class set of headphones will make this happen.
Without headphones, it is very stressful and the students are finding it difficult to learn. They will also be able to do some research on the iPad to help them with reading across the curriculum.
Another thing, we are learning in third grade, is to focus for an extended period of time. By using chess boards with pieces that have the moves written on them, the students learn the chess moves more easily. Learning needs to be educational and fun. Your help will enable our class to achieve more by becoming better readers and learn to focus and concentrate by interacting with our classmates.
