Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am grateful to have a class full of caring, empathetic and giving students. Our school is across the street from a large convalescent home. Students often see patients at their window/balcony as they come and go from school. More recently my class has been asking me about "the people there and if they have friends or family."

This sparked a class discussion on how we can connect with those in the convalescent home.

Students came up with ideas on how they can better the day of those in the home, and our most favored idea was to plan a visit to the center, and take pictures with them. Students want to be able to print the photos while there, so they can give them to the patients. Similarly, with the holidays just around the corner, they thought it'd be a good idea to save the photos digitally so we can make a video montage and holiday cards for those living in the facility!

My class is very active in the community and will be able to use the camera and sd card in each of our community activities. For example, today my students volunteered at a non-profit where they planted trees in our community. With the use of the camera and printer, students will be able to capture their own images and print them, as well as leave a class-photo for the non-profit.

Next month we are doing a beach clean up and can use the camera and materials to capture our efforts to clean up our community!

Thank you in advance for thinking of us!
