Our Community Garden

My Project

What I love about my students is that they are willing to get their hands dirty and try new things. We are doing a novel study about a community garden that was created by a 9 year old Vietnamese girl in Cleveland, OH. I want the students to start their own community garden and diagram the progress of their plants.

The supplies will help with the progress of how the plants are growing.

For example, we will monitor the progress of each step of our plants. There are tomatoes, lettuce, carrots and flowers being born. Each of these plants have an importance to the story. The students will see how calming and peaceful it is to garden and how much it can help with relieving stress. The students are in middle school and most of them suffer from past trauma as well as social anxiety. I hope we can help alleviate some of those struggles with our community garden.
