Our class is excited to return to a regular classroom day after more than a year of crisis distance learning and shorter hybrid schooldays. We have high hopes this year will bring the best of what we've missed from on-campus school with a fresh start in a new grade!
Because of the pandemic, we've gained a great many new skills for working digitally and independently, as well as practicing life skills that will help us face future challenges.
Finally, we get to bring these new ways of thinking and working back to a full in-person classroom!
My Project
Our school emphasizes consistency in practicing the writing process through all grades, based on an excellent program called Write From the Beginning. We use multiple graphic organizers during the process, and in some steps of the process, we use a schoolwide color-coding to help us organize our thoughts into paragraphs.
These durable many-pocketed folders and color-coding pens are just what we need for a pleasurable, efficient practice of the writing process during our writing workshop time.
The clear folder pockets provide the space students need to keep works-in-progress organized every step of the way, while also displaying reminders and checklists for each stage of the process. Plenty of extra ballpoint pens will keep us all working when, as is inevitable, someone's pen stops working or breaks in the middle of workshop. (Orange I could only find as a gel pen, and I included only a few extra because in my experience there are fewer issues getting gel pens to write.)
