I teach twenty-five happy and excited-to-learn third graders. All day long they have fun growing, thinking, and trying their best. Our school is a wonderful, small multicultural school located in Los Angeles. Over 32% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and everyone receives free breakfast. Our class loves hands-on activities.
Students learn best when they are actively involved in their learning.
My students are engaged in projects, especially when we use our classroom MacBook Pro laptops. Unfortunately, our laptops are six years old and need to get a "tune up" so next year's students can use the Internet for research, create Keynote and PowerPoint presentations, and work on their writing skills using Pages and Word.
My Project
Six years ago my students and I experienced an amazing moment when Google funded my project requesting 7 MacBook Pro laptops. These laptops transformed my classroom and teaching style because my students could use technology daily without having to wait for our once a week visit to the Computer Lab.
Unfortunately, after six years of use, these laptops need to be serviced by an experienced Apple technician because they no longer work optimally as they once did.
This project will cover the cost to have each of the MacBook Pro laptops serviced, have their drives wiped, operating systems upgraded, and given a tune up. We count on these laptops so my students can work on PowerPoints, Keynote presentations, do research online, record voiceovers for our movies in GarageBand, edit our cut paper animated films in iMovie, and write essays in Pages and Word. Having this tune up will make a huge difference for my students this year and for years to come.
