This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I had been teaching remotely last year, and couldn't wait to get back into the classroom in the fall! Our students have been so resilient, patient, and hardworking throughout the pandemic; it's incredible what they have overcome!

Our 2nd grade classroom just outside Denver has an array of language backgrounds, socioeconomic backgrounds, and students who have just returned this fall from both in-person learning and remote learning during the 2020-21 school year!

Each student brings a different perspective, varying background knowledge, and experiences to share. Our classroom community thrives on respect and we take time each day to learn from one another.

My Project

We are flooding 2nd grade with books this year! Catching up from online learning and the ups and downs of the 2020-21 school year, my students are being exposed to books of all sorts.

From social emotional learning books, to beginning reader (I Can Read) books, to hilarious read alouds with deeper level thinking, room 28 is getting surrounded by text!

Please help my support this project to push my students to engage in individual texts, share thinking during group reading, and build background knowledge with cultural and social emotional books. A love is reading is where it all starts!
