This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach wonderful, curious Pre-K children in a high need area. They love to learn and they especially love to use the computer. Since our school is located in a high need area, many children do not have computers at home and must rely on the technology in our class to learn through computers.
Unfortunately, we only have one computer and it is ancient. It works when it "feels" like it. Imagine having to teach with a "moody" computer! The computer we have has very old programs and can't even make a cd or dvd for the children to take home. The children love to use the computer but they bicker over it since one computer is simply not enough for 18 children. It truly is a shame because I have students who don't own a computer at home and this is their very first experience using a computer. They can learn so many new concepts through the computer and we really need another one that has new technology and allows more children to use it everyday. Please help!
Our class needs a 17" laptop and and child's converter kit that has headphones and a keyboard/mouse to make the laptop easier to use. Having this laptop will allow more children to use the computer, make cds and dvds for them to take home, and it can be stored safely away while it is not being used. This computer will be used so I can teach the children basic computer skills such as typing, using the mouse, and running programs independantly. With our new computer the children will use the internet for research (under parental controls) and play educational games that teach academic skills in a fun way. Please help our class get a new laptop!
