My Students
I am a 2nd grade Special Education Teacher in Brooklyn, NY. My school is an Early Childhood Center that ranges from Pre-K to Grade 2. We are a Title I school with a large population of English Language Learners. The staff at our school pride ourselves on creating a love of learning in young children so they may carry it with them throughout their lives.
The students in my class have been diagnosed with disabilities such as speech and language disorders, learning disabilities, and delays in motor skills.
They have several different learning styles and it is often a challenge to meet the specific needs of each and every child.
My Project
My class would truly benefit from a donation of Kindle Fires.
It is so important for the foundations of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to begin in the early childhood years.
There are several apps that can be used on Kindles to teach STEM concepts such as coding, logic, math, and more through fun games and play. This donation will allow my students to begin to grasp these tasks at an early age and create confidence in STEM topics.
The Kindles will also be used to research topics included in the Units of Study we complete throughout our school year. There are many opportunities within these themes for students to conduct their own research. I would love to allow them to use a Kindle to find out interesting information about the topics and take ownership of their learning. I have noticed that our students are excited to work on the tablets and light up when they find the answers to their own questions.
