Our City Dreamscapes (Printmaking Project)

My students need block printing materials and equipment, including rollers, water-soluble ink and paper.

The fine-arts projects we create in our Art Studio challenge student-artists and expose them to a rich variety of techniques, concepts and materials. I teach visual art to all students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Our charter school's unique program provides a fully integrated arts education. The art staff works closely with classroom teachers and families to bring art into every aspect of the education process.

I am planning a series of printmaking workshops for K-3 students but am short on the necessary materials and tools. We have the resources to create the initial cityscape collages, but lack the more sophisticated supplies to make the actual prints. This project is in collaboration with the unit on "Our City" that students will be studying in their classrooms.

We need rollers, water-soluble ink and block printing paper so that students can roll over their collages with ink, place sheets of rice paper on top of the wet surface and rub out the image with their hands. There is a certain magic to this printmaking process that truly seems to ignite every child who participates. The result will be monochromatic relief prints of individual scenes of our city at night that look more like "dreamscapes".

Your help will allow all of my student-artists to experience the unique magic of printmaking. These prints will be incredible works of art which we will proudly display at our K-3 Winter Exhibition.
