My Project
Calming corners are not a new idea. However, after COVID, creating a space that students can use to regulate emotions in my office is extremely important. The floor cushions will help create a comfortable space, as opposed to a hard floor. In this space, they can use the crayons and markers to express their feelings.
My students can effectively practice self-regulation skills when they are given a choice to express themselves in a safe and comfortable space.
To make this space safe for all, we will utilize the broom and wipes to clean the area for the next group of students who need the calming corner.
Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as tables, desks, or sitting or lying on the floor with paper. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating.
